Silicon Ink

Innovalight - Silicon Ink – A New Way Forward For Silicon

It's early technology, but it looks promising. The startup company InnovaLight has created silicon nanocrystals (or quantum dots) which can be placed in a solution and "printed" - making it possible to manufacture cheap solar cells, and even embed them on flexible substrates like clothing. They can also be used to emit light as well as absorb it, and can be tuned to absorb or emit specific wavelengths.

Their web site calls this a "disruptive" technology, and I agree. They should have some actual products by 2007, so we'll be keeping an eye on these guys.
