Stop the DREAM Act

Senator John Cornyn
SH - 517, United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Cornyn,

You championed American workers, students and families on June 28, when you voted against cloture for S. 1639. Please commit yourself to voting against any amnesty or immigration increases as part of the DoD authorization bill.

I am especially concerned about Amendment 2237, which would attach the DREAM Act to the bill. The DREAM act is a loophole-ridden amnesty that would grant legal status to almost any illegal alien who applied for it.

On its surface, the DREAM Act would provide amnesty to illegal aliens who entered the United States before the age of 16 and grant them in-state tuition. At the very least, this act gives preferential treatment to students who shouldn't even be in the country over our own young people - many of whom will struggle to afford higher education.

But that is not all that is wrong with the DREAM Act. The bill was written in such a way that there is no upper age limit and very little burden of proof placed on the applicant. A 45-year-old illegal alien who had entered the country less than a year ago could game the system by simply walking into a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office and providing a sworn statement that he had been in the country since before he was 16. Thus, this is an invitation for just about every illegal alien to fraudulently claim the amnesty.

This is a perfect example of the slippery slope of amnesty. Once you start rewarding some law-breakers, you end up rewarding them all.

Please oppose any and all amnesty amendments to the DoD authorization bill.
Sincerely,

Randy Roach

Astro, another important aspect about this Dream Bill which must be mentioned, especially considering your own sci-tech orientation-- besides an illegal alien amnesty, it also includes a plan to vastly increase the visas for H1B tech workers from India, to displace and cause further misery for already suffering American tech workers. With American tuition prices and our cost of living expenses, there's no way we can accept the dirt-poor wages of the Indian workers (with their tuition-free education) that the H1B brings in. This alone is enough reason to oppose the H1B.

It's shameful that Hillary Clinton in particular is such a big sponsor of this bill. I'm a Democrat and used to like Hillary Clinton, but no longer. If the Dems actually nominate Hillary, then I either vote for an Independent candidate or even for a Republican in 2008.

BTW I and my family in other states will be calling and FAXing our Congressional representatives to voice our opposition to this bill, and we will be specifically mentioning the disgusting H1B visa program. That's the only way the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives will get the message, that this visa program is unacceptable.

If you want to see how companies get around the law to bypass American workers in favor of cheaper foreign workers, take a look at this video. It's sickening. I don't see how these lawyers can sleep at night.
