Here are some random observations on last week's show, "The End of the Beginning".
The Eye - Apparently the fan community seems to think the eye Hurley sees when staring into Jacob's cabin belongs to Locke, Desmond, or some other character we've seen before. I think they are all wrong. To me the facial characteristics look very much like one of the Inuit. This was confirmed (for me at least) by Hurley's drawing of an Eskimo and igloo. In the institution there is a green blackboard behind Hurley. It has pictures of an island, a palm tree, a raft, and a shark. Hurley is drawing THINGS HE HAS SEEN. The eye belongs to an Eskimo. You heard it here first. I'd be looking into Inuit mythology if I were you.
The Lie - Why does Hurley deny knowing Anna Lucia? Why does Matthew Abaddon (whose name translates into "Angel of the Abyss", Destroyer and other Bad Things) ask Hurley "Are they alive?" Why does Jack want to know if Hurley will "tell"? Because the "Oceanic Six" have lied, to protect themselves, the island, the remaining survivors (if any) or as a condition of their rescue. Like Michael, they may have done some morally questionable things to secure their return. Odd that Kate seems to have no problem with whatever it was.
The Walking Dead - We see Charlie in the form of a vision (i.e. in the police station) as well as apparently flesh and blood. Another patient sees Charley, which means either the patient is also an illusion or Charley has been physically manifested off the island. Is that possible? Well, something brought these people to the island in the first place, so obviously it has influence beyond the island itself. If Charley really was Smokie or something like it, consider if Jacob/The Island really, really wanted you to come back. With that kind of power, it could really make you miserable until you complied. I think that's part of the deal with Jack's downward spiral. That and guilt.
Jacob's Cabin and the Whispers - Sticking to my story about the eye belonging to an eskimo, let me tell you a little Inuit myth about the Taqriaqsuit, also known as the shadow people. They live like we do in a world like our own. Their world, however, is beyond our perception. They are almost never seen, but sometimes when conditions are right the Taqriaqsuit can be heard. Sound familiar?
Naomi's Sister - Before she bites the big one, Namomi radios "Tell my sister that I love her" and fans wonder who her sister is. I don't think she has a sister. I think the phrase "tell my sister I love her" is a code-phrase that tells the people back in the boat that she's under duress.
Gosh I'm glad LOST is back!
Update: In an interview on The Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack actor Jorge Garcia, who plays Hurley, reveals that he was given no instructions about what to paint and just came up with the Eskimo and igloo by himself, reasoning that Hurley would be trying to get mentally as far away from the island as possible. Producer Jack Bender liked the painting and got a shot of it. I'm sticking to my crackpot theory though,
