Boeing laying off 510 at end of space shuttle program | Boeing and Aerospace News - seattlepi.com

Hey, thanks Obama!

Now to be fair, Obama didn't cancel the Shuttle program, Bush did. What Obama cancelled was the Constellation program that was to follow the Shuttle.

Boeing issued layoff notices Friday to about 510 employees in its Space Exploration division, mostly because of the planned end of the space shuttle program.

The 60-day notices went to around 260 employees in Houston, 150 at Kennedy Space Center, Fla., and 100 in Huntington Beach, Calif. The last workday is scheduled to be Aug. 5, pending completion of the final shuttle mission.
