Actually, the Democrats must realize that they have to more than just hate Bush to win elections, so they came up with a list of six "themes" for the campaign. Note that there are no details surrounding and of these themes, such as how they might be accomplished or paid for. Schumer says "it's closing the deal."
The six themes are national security; jobs and wages; energy independence; affordable health care; retirement security; and college access for all.
If I had to guess (and I do) I'd characterize their plans something like this:
National security - Immediate withdrawal from Iraq, allowing it to degenerate to civil war, with the winning insurgents committing genocide against their enemies as soon as they get to power.
Jobs and wages - Force small businesses to pay a much higher minimum wage so they'll be forced to hire illegals (excuse me, "undocumented workers").
Energy independence - Stop development of oil fields in Alaska and offshore. Tax Exxon and other oil companies back to the stone age. Convert all vehicles to run on a mixture of used cooking oil from Long John Silvers and moonshine.
Affordable health care - Take my money and give it to others, then limit my choice in doctors or treatments.
Retirement security - How can they even mention this with a straight face?
College access for all - Hey, while we're at it let's guarantee everyone will get a PhD. It will help them feel better about themselves.
But before these fabulous solutions can be put in place, the Democrats need to get organized. Here's what happened in a meeting to reveal their campaign strategy.
"At a meeting with reporters at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee headquarters, Democratic leaders unveiled a Web video with clips of the president saying 'stay the course' interspersed with graphics such as 'gas prices at an all time high.'
They played the video on a small laptop in the front of the room full of reporters because, they said, they couldn't find a screen projector."
