MIT Institute For Soldier Nanotechnologies

Robert Heinlein invented the concept of powered armor in his controversial novel Starship Troopers (left out of the movie, along with all the key themes of the book).

In Joe Haldeman's The Forever War, the concept of a powered suit with with biometrics and "trama maintenance" was introduced. It would do whatever it could to save the wearer's life if something got blown off.

Now these Sci-Fi concepts are coming to life at the MIT Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies. Yep, I'm talking about exo-suits that can amplify a soldier's strength, protect him against blasts, projectiles, chemicals and pathogens, monitor his physical well-being, automatically provide first aid and even perform CPR.

Don't believe it? Well, it's all on their site; just take a look at this short video.

By the way I highly recommend reading both Starship Troopers and The Forever War. You'll hardly ever see too more opposite takes on the same subject matter. It's the difference in viewpoints of a veteran of WWII and a veteran of Vietnam.
