Atlantis sits poised for a final, risky servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope, while Endeavor is readied to serve as a rescue ship should the need arise.
The last time two shuttles were on launch pads simultaneously was in 2001. I remember crossing one of the wooden walkways that lead over the dunes from Playalinda Beach, and as I got to the top of the dune seeing a view much like this, but with the spacecraft illuminated by the setting sun. It made me start thinking what it would have been if the Shuttle had fulfilled its initial promise, with flights almost weekly. Sigh. And now, this is most likely the last time we'll ever see two shuttles side-by-side again/
